New school in Koh Pen (B)
The Cambodian foundation Spie-en together with their Dutch sister foundation De Brug has been asked by the village council of Koh Pen (B) to finance the costs of the building material for a new 6 class room school. The old wodden school building from 1947 has been renovated already twice but cannot be used any more without danger for the students and teachers. The villagers will contribute by paying the wages of the builders and the council has provided the land free of charge. De Brug will provide the school furniture, books and pencils, a playground, a water pump and WC. SSCR has been asked by De Brug to finance the building material for this school with a budget of US$ 35.000 or an equivalent of approximately € 25.000 if the exchange rate will be 1,40 at the moment of payment.

The old building looks not seriously damaged outside but it breaks apart and is about to collapse inside

Improvements for the 2 Don Bosco schools in Andaung Chenh
From the Dutch volunteer Tineke van de Beek who is since 7 years in charge of the Don Bosco school projects in Andaung Chenh we have received a "wish list" for various improvements regarding the two newly built schools. In 2012, we hope to realize some of these improvements as for example to connect the Secondary School to the public electricity net and to install lamps and fans in the Secondary School.
In addition, we would also like to construct a football field on this site for the now about 500 and in future 800 students in addition to the already existing volley- and basketball field. We think it would be great when the children will be able to play and sport both during their sports lessons and also after the school time in their free hours.
Eventually we also would like to install a rain drainage system for the whole school area as it is no superfluous luxury especially during the rainy season to have a proper drainage system to let the rain water flow away from the school terrain.
Last but not least the old delivery van will have to be replaced in which the volunteers drive to the remote villages every month to control whether the children are still visiting the village schools and to distribute the goods, monthly support money and post to the families supported by our sponsors via the Don Bosco Children Fund of Cambodia.
We hope that we will be able to realize some of these projects in 2012 and will continue to do so in 2013 if possible.
